What place is represented in your art?
The photo I used for my idea of place was a picture of a bridge in albany new york, my birth place. I did not actually take this picture unfortunately, i got it from online but i feel as if my painting made it my own. when most people think of new york they often think of the city, they don't often think of the beauty that is upstate. This bridge represents that beauty to me, very subtle but gentle and welcoming .
What did you find the most challenging about the picture about the picture you picked?
the most challenging part of this piece was blending the blues together, in different contrast of shading. i didn't realize how many different shades of blue there were until this project.
What do you feel is most successful about your piece?
i think the bridge on my piece, and the bushes are very well colored. i feel like the bridge and the bushes look very similar to that of the actual picture.
What was the process for your piece
The process on creating my painting wasn't relatively long. First i decided to start of with making the background. I chose a semi-light blue to represent the water. Next, i started to make a green to represent the mirkiness of the water. i than went along with a thinner brush to continue the brown outline of the bridge, and started creating green bushes where i saw fit.
(unfotunately right now i still need to retrieve my painting from the glass frame outside it is in to take pictures)
What did you learn from this activity?
I learned how to utilize the three primary color (Red, Blue, Yellow) in able to make the shade of your choice. Also with the colors we used, we learned how to blend and shade in one color into another for a smooth color transition
How do you make brown?
In order to make brown, you need to use two primary colors to make a secondary color. Once you have your two secondary colors, you can mix them to make a brown. The shade of your brown depends on what two colors you use. The colors that make brown are Orange to Blue, Purple to Yellow, or Green to Red.
What warm up was the most helpful to?
For me, the most helpful warm up was the Sign shading one, where we did stripped, hatching and others. this opened my eyes to how there were techniques to even doing the simplest thigns in art.
Define Composition and Value
Composition: The placement or arrangement of the elements of art in a work
Value: The art element that describes the darkness or lightness of a color or object
Pros and Cons of each medium
Pencil
Pros: With a pencil I feel like it's the most easy to maneuver because we use pencils almost everyday, and if you mess up, you can easily erase it
Cons: When you're drawing and accidently touch your drawing, you put yourself at risk of smudging your work
Charcoal
Pros: If you make a mistake on your drawing, you can easily smudge your drawing to make seem like nothing ever happened to your paper
Cons: With charcoal, it's hard to get a precise drawing of your object. Especially with the charcoal pencil, whatever you draw relatively end up turning out thick.
Pen
Pros: When drawing with a pen, you are able to get a precise drawing because of its smooth ball tip
Cons: Since you can not erase pen, any little mistake you make on you paper is crucial to your drawing
For my inspired artist, I decided to choose SARAH FAUX. FAUX is a well known PAINTER from boston She was born and raised in boston and gets her inspiration from her childhood's environment and mom and dad. Using only her paint and paint brushes, she is able to create a beautiful work of art. With her current abstract art she has been producing astonishing paintings .faux's work is inspiring to me because she does not listen to anyone, or care what anyone else says about her artwork. she once said that she could care less if 0 people baught her art work, as long as she loved it she would continue to do it, and to me that is truly inspiring
